Zofia Kulisiewicz, Przemysław Witek - "Depths"

The debut album of cellist Zofia Kulisiewicz, recorded with the accompaniment of pianist Przemysław Witek. The album includes four cello sonatas by Polish composers: Szymon Laks (1901-1983), Aleksander Tansman (1897-1986), Mieczysław Wajnberg (1919-1996) and Ludomir Różycki (1883-1953). The CD ends with the world premiere recording of the discovered miniature, Lullaby by Aleksander Tansman. The stories of the four composers and their works are a reflection of the fate of Polish music in the first half of the 20th century, an example of a promising new beginning after World War I, which ended a period of 123 years of political and cultural oppression and foreign domination. They are an embodied example of unimaginable suffering and indescribable destruction that fell on Poland with the Nazi terror on September 1, 1939, and at the same time an example of the unbridled will to live and survive, expressed in the energy and vitality typical of Polish music.
